Remix operating procedure

How I am making my remixes
  1. Preparation of samples with Audacity on Windows PC and import them to iPhone Korg Gadget iTunes folder. At this point, one should note that the naming of samples is crucial and must be carefully done to suit the size of iPhone screen in Korg Gadget: for example PF-AHM-P1l-1 for a sample of left audio of part 1 sub-part 1 of Atom Heart Mother. If possible, it is great having some isolated instruments or vocals by using the Isolate Vocals/Center effect of Audacity, and a bit of EQ. The result may not always be very clean but inside the remix, with other things like drums and bass, it can well sit.
  2. Find song BPM and key, though not really important (to be close to the original) in my opinion, it can be useful if I want to play the samples in time (some samples are not needed to be played in time, for example, short samples)
  3. Create a file on Korg Gadget for each part/sub-part:
    1. Import the samples into Abu Dabi instrument (or sometime Vancouver to play melodies with optional shimmer-like reverb). Generally, I don't transform pitch of samples (even to play melody), I prefer using the original feeling of the song extract to keep the essence of the song.
    2. Lay down the main samples and try to find a beautiful loop out of them
    3. Otherwise, sometimes, I'll just arrange the samples as to follow to original song part, it's less interesting but sometimes it's the only solution
  4.  Export to WAV and masterize on Windows PC with Audacity and Izotope Ozone mastering plugin

What is to linearize a song ?

I love to remove the dramatic aspect of a song to keep only the ambiance, and almost no rise/fall in tension. If I had to theorize, I think it should have to deal with distance between chords as mentionned in page 3 of this document or explained hereabove.

I call it the "linearizing".
